Who built it

Built by a shop owner who wrote supplements for a living.

Travis Johnston is a second-generation shop owner who ran his own until 2022. He spent years writing supplements by hand, pulling P-pages and OEM position statements one line at a time, and watching good work fall off the carrier's estimate. He built GuideCoat because the tool he needed on the estimator's desk never existed.

Travis wrote a recent piece for FenderBender on estimating and supplements.

How it works

See what's missing, with the proof to back it up.

1

Upload both estimates

Drop in your shop's estimate and the carrier's. CCC, Mitchell, or Audatex.

2

GuideCoat checks every line

Each difference is validated against OEM position statements, P-pages, the SCRS guide, and state rules.

3

Your case, drafted and documented

A ranked discrepancy report, plus adjuster and customer emails drafted for you, each backed by the OEM and procedure documentation.

What you get

Four outputs. One upload.

Upload your shop estimate and the insurer's. GuideCoat does the rest.

Discrepancy Analysis

Line-by-line comparison ranked by dollar impact. Every rate gap, part substitution, and omitted operation, found in seconds.

Adjuster Email

Professional supplement request drafted for you. Collaborative tone, specific line references, ready to send.

Customer Email

Warm, jargon-free update that explains additional repairs, reassures on cost, and keeps trust high.

Action Checklist

Photos needed, docs to gather, follow-up timeline, negotiation strategy, your complete game plan.

GuideCoat drafts it. You send it.

GuideCoat writes the adjuster and customer emails and attaches the OEM and P-page citations to each line, so they come ready to go. They send from your account, when you decide, in whatever words you want. GuideCoat never contacts a carrier on its own.

Where GuideCoat is going

Today it audits the estimate. Next, it runs the whole repair.

GuideCoat is becoming the repair record system: it turns the estimate into a living, evidence-backed repair plan and keeps the complete, defensible story of the fix, start to finish.

The estimate is only the beginning

One line like "replace quarter panel" becomes the fifteen real operations the fix actually takes.

Nothing is ever erased

Every version, discovery, and decision is preserved, so the repair can be reconstructed and defended years later.

Proof is part of the work

A task cannot be closed without the evidence it requires. Documentation happens during the repair, not after.

Straight answers

Questions shops actually ask.

What happens to my estimates and my customer's info?

Your uploads are used for one thing: producing your analysis. Your data is never sold, never shared, and never used to train AI models. And GuideCoat doesn't keep your files, they're processed to build your report and aren't stored after your run.

Will this cause problems with my DRP relationships?

GuideCoat doesn't write demand letters. Every finding cites documentation carriers already recognize, like OEM position statements, P-pages, and DEG inquiries, and the adjuster email reads the way a good estimator writes a supplement request: collaborative, specific, documented. Asking to be paid for required, documented operations is normal claims work. What you send, and whether you send it, is always your call.

What if a finding is wrong?

Then you toss it. Nothing sends without you. Every finding shows the source it's built on, so you can check the citation yourself before anything leaves the shop. GuideCoat does the reading in seconds, and you're still the estimator of record.

Which estimating systems does it work with?

CCC, Mitchell, and Audatex. GuideCoat reads the printed estimate PDFs, so there is no DMS integration, nothing to install, and no IT project. The free comparison supports CCC today, and paid plans add Mitchell and Audatex.

How long does an analysis take?

About three minutes from upload to finished outputs: ranked discrepancies, citations, and drafted emails, ready to send. The P-page research that used to eat your evening is done before you're off the phone.
